Delaware County Republicans Central Committee Minutes

February 6, 2023

Old 20 Auctions

7:00 p.m.

Present:  David Marks, Jeff Madlom, Kevin Glanz, Jean Gross, Roger Helmrichs, Bruce Nieman, Cher Delperdang, Pete Buschmann, Lynn Sheets, Paula Robinson.

Roger called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.  A motion was made by David, seconded by Kevin to approve the minutes of the January meeting as given.  Carried.  A motion was made by Jeff, seconded by Pete to approve the Financial Report as presented.

Legislative Reports:  Bruce shared that Dan Zumbach and Craig Johnson were at the Legislative Coffee held on February 3 at the Farm Bureau office.  Some of the topics of discussion were the carbon pipeline, education funding, deer hunting and property taxes.

Roger reported that he attended the inauguration of the Governor, Lt. Governor and others in Des Moines in January.   He also was able to visit several of the offices in the capitol that were open to the public.   There appears to be a focus on making our state government leaner by eliminating some duplication.  Roger read an e-mail from Ashley Hinson's office regarding her vote for the Respect for Marriage Act recently enacted to clarify for us why she felt it was important to support it especially as it pertains to religious entities.

Scholarship:  David asked for additional help for the scholarship committee.  Kevin and Paula volunteered to help with that.  Scholarships will be awarded in May to the winners.

New Business:

++ A motion was made by Jeff, seconded by Kevin to send a contribution to the Fair Board for the use of their building for our meetings in October and January.  Carried.

++We need to be thinking about Century Club mailings soon for 2023.  Cher will draft a letter for approval by the Fundraising committee.

++We discussed moving the fall dinner to late August or early September this year to see if we can improve turnout.

++It was discussed to consider having meat certificates for prizes at our fair booth this year.  One from three grocery stores and also beef and pork producers.  Everyone agreed this was a good idea especially considering grocery prices.

++Roger encouraged us to be thinking about next year and the upcoming elections.  It will be a very busy time so planning ahead is helpful.

Motion by Pete, seconded by Jeff to adjourn the meeting at 8:00 p.m.  Next meeting will be March 6 at Old 20 Auctions at 7:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Jean Gross

Secretary
