Delaware County Republican Central Committee Minutes
January 9, 2023
Fairgrounds Pavilion
7:00 p.m.
Present: Roger Helmrichs, Jeff Madlom, Kevin Glanz, Jean Gross, Lynn Sheets, David
Marks, Doug Robbins, Bruce Nieman, Travis Hemesath, Judy Eckman, Pete Buschmann,
Roni Hilby, Clarence Slife.
Roger called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. A
motion was made by David, seconded by Jeff to approve the minutes of the December
meeting as given. Carried. A motion was made by Pete seconded by Kevin to approve
the amended Financial Report. Motion carried.
Legislative Report: Bruce reported that a Legislative Coffee is being planned for Friday
February 3 at 10:00 at the Farm Bureau office. Senator Zumbach and Rep. Johnson are
expected to be there. Some discussion was held on the proposed CO2 pipeline that is
awaiting a decision by the Iowa Utilities Board. Our elected officials are not committing
publicly at this point. Roger read a letter he received from Senator Joni Ernst regarding
her vote for the Respect for Marriage Act. She considered the protection of religious
liberties to be of utmost importance in voting in favor of the bill. She also included
further information explaining the points of the bill.
Scholarship: David remarked that he has received two applications so far for the
scholarships to be awarded by our committee in May. Letters have gone out to all the
schools having students living in Delaware County.
New Business: Roger stated that the current officers for the central committee are
willing to serve another two year term. A motion was made by Jeff, seconded by
Clarence to retain the executive committee officers for another two years. Carried.
Roger mentioned that Carol Ankrom had recently passed away. She and her late husband
were active in the Republican party. He also mentioned that the Governor's Inauguration
is scheduled for this Friday the 13th in Des Moines at the Events Center as well as other
activities planned for the day if anyone was interested in attending.
Judy said that there is now another recognized political party, Libertarian, that will be on
the ballots in the future. There are some registered Libertarians in our county.
Our next meeting will be February 6th at Old 20 Auctions. Meeting adjourned at 8:05
p.m.
