June 6, 2022
7:00 p.m. - Old 20 Auctions
Present: Roger Helmrichs, Terry Griffith, Judy Eckman, Clarence Slife, Kevin Glanz,
Jeff Madlom, Norma Borcherding, Lynn Sheets, David Marks, Bruce Nieman, Susan
Johnson, Craig Johnson, Pete Buschmann, Cher Delperdang, Doug Robbins, Paula
Robinson, Teresa Griffith, David Weber, Travis Hemesath, Jean Gross, Robert Kugel.
Roger called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Motion by
Pete, seconded by Dave to approve the minutes of the May meeting as presented.
Motion by Clarence, seconded by Kevin to approve the Financial Report as given.
Bills were presented for payment.
Candidate Spotlight: State Senator Craig Johnson who is running for a State
Representative position in the new District 67 (created by redistricting) spoke to us about
his experiences in the Senate and his decision to run as a Representative due to he and
Dan Zumbach being in the same Senate District. He and his wife spend a great deal of
time door knocking and have been met with positive results. He spoke about his
conservative stance on many issues important to the Republican party and Iowa.
There are many fundraisers being planned around the state and several were
shared by Doug and Roger. Watch your mail and e-mail for announcements.
Finance & Funding: Cher announced several people will be meeting June 14 at her
home at 7:00 p.m. to discuss plans for fund raising at our Fall Dinner.
Scholarship: Olivia Hilby has let the scholarship committee know she has completed
her first semester of college. A check for $500 has been written and Bob will make sure
she gets it.
State Primary: Tomorrow, June 7, is the state primary and we are hoping for a strong
showing even though there are few contests.
State Convention: Jeff and Roger will drive to Des Moines for the state convention on
June 11. They will meet with the delegates after this meeting to finalize plans.
Registration starts at 8:30 with the convention convening at 10:00 a.m. at the State
Fairgrounds.
Iowa Young Republicans: They will be having their state convention June 11 at 4:00 at
the Iowa Motor Truck Association building in Des Moines. (717 E. Court Ave.)
Rhubacue on the River: Also, June 11 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. we will have a promotion
booth in conjunction with this celebration. Dave will man the booth from 8-10:30 and
David and Pete will be available from 10:30-1:00. We will have voter registration forms
available as well as banners and pocket Constitutions.
Delaware County Fair Booth: Set up and decorating will take place the Sunday before
the fair. We have a larger booth and plans were discussed for signage, handouts and
daily prizes for the week. Six prizes are being donated by various members of the
Central Committee. Doug passed a sign-up sheet for those that want to man the booth
each day in three-hour increments beginning at noon. Handouts will include Pocket
Constitutions as well as copies of our Platform.
Republican State Officials Fundraising Event: This event will be held on Friday, July
22, starting at 6:00 p.m. at the Wesley Moore residence (11915 Apple Road, Postville).
Those state officials present will be Paul Pate, Sec. of State; Mike Naig, Sec. of Ag.;
Todd Halbur or Mary Ann Hanusa, State Auditor; Roby Smith, State Treasurer; and
Brenna Bird, State Attorney General. Counties invited include Clayton, Delaware,
Allamakee, Winneshiek, and Fayette. The cost is $25/person or $40/couple. A motion
was made by Doug, seconded by Paula to send sponsor money in the amount of $500 to
this event. Motion carried. There will be a VIP event starting at 4:30 with Mike Naig,
Ag Secretary, to be held at a separate location for $65/person or $125/couple.
Hinson BBQ Bash: On Sunday August 28 at the Linn County Fairgrounds Ashley
Hinson will have a BBQ Bash like last year. More information will be coming.
Century Club Update: Century Club letters were mailed last month and so far, we have
had 21 responses with donations.
Campaign Signs: Jeff and Roger will help with campaign signs which should be put up
shortly after the State Convention. Pete volunteered to loan some steel fence posts for the
large signs. All are welcome to help with this and you can contact Jeff or Roger if
interested in helping or having a sign.
Judy who works in the Auditors Office explained in detail the process they have
been using to make sure that anyone who wants to vote can have the opportunity. We
welcome her input in this important process. There is no internet connection involved in
the voting in Delaware County.
Doug asked for volunteers to provide pickups for the upcoming parades. Dave,
Bob, Roger and Terry will help with that.
Next meeting will be Tuesday, July 5 same time and place. Meeting adjourned
at 8:30 p.m.
