Delaware County Central Committee Minutes

November 1, 2021

7:00 p.m.  Days Inn

 

Present:  Roger Helmrichs, Jean Gross, Teresa Griffith, Terry Griffith, Cher Delperdang, Clarence Slife, Cindy Birkenholz, Wayne Birkenholz, Bruce Nieman, David Marks, Doug Robbins, Lynn Sheets, Robert Kugel, Pat Colgan, Chloe' Colgan, Judy Eckman, Cliff Bunting, Julie Vandermeer.

Roger Helmrichs called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.  Motion by Bob Kugel, seconded by by Clarence Slife to approve the minutes as written with two name spelling corrections.  Motion by Doug Robbins, seconded by Clarence Slife to approve the treasurer's report as presented. 

Legislative Reports:  Bruce Nieman said they are working on having staff persons from  Ernst and Grassley come and talk about what is happening legislatively.  Iowa has approved the second redistricting plan for Iowa Congressional Districts.  Mike Pence will be coming to Cedar Rapids on behalf of the Miller-Meeks campaign.

Business Meeting:  Judy Eckman gave a recap of the recent successful fundraiser dinner.  Approximately 150 people attended this year's event including several county high school students.  Judy shared a spreadsheet showing the income and expenses from our gathering. . The fundraising team held a zoom meeting the week after to discuss what went well or what could be changed and talked about other types of fundraisers we could consider.  Roger was commended for the nice picture and article he sent to the Manchester Press.  Thank you cards were sent to Mike Loecke for allowing us the use of his auction venue and to the manager of the Days Inn for allowing us to use their meeting room for our monthly meetings. 

Discussions were held on the recently approved Option #2 Redistricting Map and the changes that will occur to some of the current legislators.  

Caucus Planning:  Precinct Chairs and Secretaries are being obtained for the upcoming February 7, 2022 caucus.  The caucus will once again be held in the upper gym of the high school and classrooms.  There will be caucus training sometime in the near future.  We will need to obtain liability insurance for that night like last time per school rules.  The County Convention will be held March 12, 2022, location to be announced.  The District Convention is Saturday, April 23, 2022.  Do we want to consider hosting this?  We would need to plan for 500 delegates. The State Convention is slated for June 11, 2022.

Our next meeting will be December 6, 2021 at the Days Inn at 7:00 p.m.  Meeting adjourned at 8:10 p.m .
