Delaware County Republican Central Committee Minutes

October 4, 2021

7:00 p.m.  Days Inn

 

Present:  Lynn Sheets, David Marks, Chelle Adkins (State Central Committee), Grand Gardner (Carlin campaign), Travis Hemesath (Sheriff' candidate), Jeff Madlom, Robert Kugel, Judy Eckman, Roger Helmrichs, Cher Delperdang, Julie Vandermeer, Terry Griffith, Teresa Griffith, Pay Colgan, Chloe` Colgan, Doug Robbins, Bruce Nieman, Cliff Bunting, Jean Gross.

            Roger Helmrichs called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.  Motion by Jeff Madlom, seconded by Doug Robbins to approve the September minutes as written.  Carried.  Motion by Doug Robbins, seconded by Cher Delperdang to approve the Treasurer's report as presented.

            Judy Eckman is one of five appointed to the county commission for redistricting.  They are looking at the first suggested map to see what will best represent our county.  There will be a public meeting later on their final proposal which then goes to the supervisors.  Voting precincts will be redone pending state action.

 

Legislative Reports:  Bruce Nieman attended a Farm Bureau district session the end of August that featured Ashley Hinson.  Grant Garland spoke once again on behalf of the Carlin campaign.  State Senator Carlin and Senator Chuck Grassley will be facing off in the next Republican primary.  Shirley Helmrichs' county supervisor position is up for re-election next year. Deputy Sheriff Travis Hemesath indicated his interest in running for Sheriff when Sheriff John LeClere retires.  Travis has 14 years of law enforcement with most of that time spent here as Investigator for Delaware County.  Chelle Adkins from the state central committee mentioned former President Trump will visit Iowa this coming Saturday at the State Fairgrounds.  Doors open at two with the event commencing at seven.  She also talked briefly about the redistricting plans happening now after the latest census.  All information for the upcoming caucuses is due to the state by December 1st.  State Central Committee bylaws are being updated. 

 

Old Business:  The meeting minutes are now available on the "Nation Builder" website for Delaware County.  Our Fall Fundraising event is planned for Saturday October 16 at the Old 20 Auctions east of Manchester.  Doors open at 5:00 p.m. with dinner at 6:00 p.m.  We will be setting up Friday October 15 at 3:00 p.m.  A trio from the West Delaware music department will sing the national anthem.  So far we know of four or five students planning to attend from Maquoketa Valley.  All schools in the county were contacted for student interest.  There will be a silent auction/live auction with this event.   

 

New Business:  Precinct Chairs and Secretaries for the caucus are due October 31.  Central Committee will be meeting soon to work on this.  Some combining of precincts is possible.  Our caucus is slated for February 7, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. in the West Delaware High School Old (Upper) Gym and rooms are available for the precinct meetings. Our County Convention will be Saturday, March 12, 2022; District Convention is Saturday, April 23, 2022; and the State Convention is June 11, 2022.  The Jones County annual fundraiser is slated for October 21st at the Fairgrounds. 

            Our next meeting will be November 1, 2021 at the Days Inn at 7:00 p.m.  Meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
