Roger called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. with everyone uniting in the Pledge of Allegiance. A motion was made by Cliff, seconded by Doug to approve the August minutes as written. Motion carried. Motion by Bob seconded by Doug to approve the Treasurer's Report as presented. Motion carried.
Craig Johnson who is running for the new House District 67 spoke and wanted to acknowledge his wife Susan who has been helping throughout this campaign season. That extra support is always helpful. He thanked our local group for putting out campaign signs. He would like some additional help distributing door to door flyers and note pads. He also said he will be at our October 15 fundraising dinner. He reminded us of the importance of supporting all our state candidates this year. There was some discussion on the CO2 pipeline proposal which is not settled and very controversial. Iowans are not in favor of the eminent domain issue as is evident by the many signs posted around the state. This will be a topic again for the upcoming legislative session.
Bernie Hayes who is currently on the State Central Committee from our district is running for the District 39 State Senate opening. He spoke about the food expense at our District Convention and the expenses that created for Buchanan County who hosted it. There were about 200 delegates not in attendance that food was prepared for. The State party ending up covering half the expense and Buchanan County Republicans had a fundraiser for the additional cost. This is something that needs to be addressed for the future. He also encouraged us to support David Barton and his Faithwins.org organization which is encouraging the church community to get involved by registering new voters which has great success in certain areas.
Lee Hein also was present and he said he would like to donate his leftover campaign funds to our Central Committee.
Action Item: Motion by David Marks, seconded by David Weber to accept the $$ from Lee Hein. Motion carried.
Simon Miller from Grassley's campaign was present and he urged people to support Chuck Grassley and get out the vote.
Bruce mentioned that you can go to the Iowa Farm Bureau website and see their endorsements this election cycle.
